The autumn-winter seasons' usher in early sunsets and colder nights for those living in areas like Europe and America. Meanwhile on the beautiful continent of Africa, uniquely positioned in the Southern Hemisphere, warmer temperatures are enjoyed. In no particular order here are some exciting destinations to explore on the continent this winter.


1. Morocco (North Africa)

Looking for an escape for the winter break Morrocco is the place to be. Located in the western North African region with lots of mountains and beautiful winter sunsets, there is much to explore. At this time of year, temperatures are warm averaging at 22°C during the day however, they drop to around 9°C at night, so it is advised to pack some warm clothes. Tourists' levels are reduced during the winter months, making for the best time to visit normally packed sites like Djemaael Fna, located at the centre of the imperial city of Marrakech. Here, you can immerse yourself into the culture with tasty food like grilled meat and tagine as well as souvenirs from market stalls. There is entertainment throughout the day, as the market comes alive at night, from snake charmers and magicians to storytellers and flute players. Festivals like the Tan Tan music festival and the annual Marrakech International film festival are also held in December.

2. Cape Town (South Africa)

December to February are the best months to visit Cape town for anyone looking to enjoy a beach holiday. Located in South Africa, the city is surrounded by the tabletop mountains, vineyards, and beautiful beaches making for a great Instagram-able destination. There are lots to explore with historic landmarks like Robben Island and Greenmarket Square, popular for its craft market where you could get souvenirs to commemorate your trip and gifts for friends. Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront situated at table harbour is also extremely popular on tourist attractions being one of the most visited sites in Africa. From exciting boat rides, wonderful views from the Cape Wheel and fine dining, to shopping from a wide variety of over 450 stores, there is no dull moment at this destination. 3. Mauritius (East Africa)

This island country located in the Indian Ocean, about 2000 kilometers from the Southeast region of Africa, is great for holiday getaways or a honeymoon destination. For a stress-free vacation, with beautiful views, white sandy beaches, and hot sunny days, be sure to pack light clothing as this is the place to be. 4. São Tomé and Príncipe (Central Africa)

Hot, sunny weather is enjoyed year-round on these islands, situated at the Gulf of Guinea off the Western Equitorialcoast of Central Africa. Nonetheless, December to February is overall the best time to visit to enjoy the dry season on the islands. There is a safe welcoming atmosphere for visitors and tourists with clear blue waters and photogenic scenery. Popular attractions to visit include Pico Cão Grande, a needle-shaped volcanic peak attracting hikers and rock climbers, biodiversity preserve at Obo Natural Park, and Banna Beach with a spectacular view for relaxation and swimming. 5. Ghana (West Africa)

Rapidly gaining popularity amongst tourists seeking an adventurous, fun-packed experience; Ghana is a top destination for dream vacations over the winter. Located in West Africa, the country is endowed with rich natural resources including gold, cocoa and diamond contributing to its economy. Popular tourist attractions to visit include Labadi beach, for a sunny beach day where you can also indulge in tasty street food like Banku and Chichinga, Kakum National Park, and the Centre for National Culture where you can get artworks and souvenirs.
